The Legend of Dog Rock

One of the children of the early European settlers of Albany, Betty, had a dog Victor. One day Betty's parents returned to find her surrounded by naked natives who were looking at Betty with curiosity as the first white child they had seen.

Victor barked furiously at the natives and they threw a spear at him as they fled. He died. Victor was buried that night on the slope of the mount and a huge storm arose. In the morning the dog's grave had disappeared and in its place the rock had risen through the soil - an everlasting monument to the dogs devotion.
